- Hans Almekinders lives in Hilversum and received his education at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. He was a lecturer at the State Pedagogical Academy in Hilversum, the University of Applied Sciences Midden Nederland in Utrecht, and the Gooise Academy in Laren (North Holland).
In 1994, he was the presenter/artist of the Teleac watercolor course. He created many portraits, especially of children, in watercolor, as well as landscapes, often “stuffed” with people. Almekinders is the author of the book “Zeefdrukken met waterverf” (Cantecleer).
The bronze sculptures are quite often model sketches that can develop into a life-size statue. The wooden and iron sculptures are often non-figurative. The iron sculptures are created through an assembly of tools, agricultural implements, and other predominantly iron materials. This results in unique sculptures that give the material a second life.
Almekinders regularly works on commission: portraits, corporate gifts, calendars, and sculptures for indoors or the garden. There have been many exhibitions, both at home and abroad. His work is in national, municipal, and private collections.
Almekinders is a member of the artists' associations Art Hilversum and Laren/Blaricum.
